Our role
Capacity Building
Capacity Building Initiatives at Gila Community Foundation: Pathways to Progress
At the Gila Community Foundation, our capacity-building initiatives, branded under the “Pathways to Progress” program, are designed to empower local nonprofits by addressing critical operational needs. Supported by Freeport McMoRan, these initiatives enhance strategic planning, grant writing capabilities, and data-driven decision-making for organizations across Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Catron counties. By equipping nonprofits with these vital tools, we enable them to serve their communities more effectively, improve operational efficiency, and achieve their missions.
Enhanced Strategic Planning and Grant Writing Capabilities
Our Pathways to Progress Strategic Planning and Grant Writing Workshops, held on September 13th and 20th, 2024, provided nonprofit leaders in southwest New Mexico with vital tools to strengthen their organizational goals and improve funding strategies. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions, developing clear 5-year strategic plans and learning how to create compelling grant proposals. These workshops empowered local organizations to enhance their long-term impact and secure stronger funding opportunities.
Stay tuned for our new quarterly workshops, starting in 2025, which will continue to provide nonprofits with the resources and skills needed to thrive.
Strengthened Connections and Support Networks
The Pathways to Progress Nonprofit Leader Luncheons are already creating a thriving support network for local nonprofits. These monthly gatherings offer a space for organizations to share knowledge, resources, and best practices. Discussions have covered topics like USDA Grants, WorkForce Connections, and nonprofit insurance, all aimed at addressing real-world challenges nonprofits face. This ongoing series strengthens collaborations and enhances the collective impact of the nonprofit sector in southwest New Mexico.
Improved Data and Mapping Capabilities
With the introduction of ArcGIS software, the Gila Community Foundation is revolutionizing the way nonprofits in Grant, Hidalgo, Catron, and Luna counties utilize data analysis and mapping. This powerful tool provides detailed insights into the locations and attributes of local nonprofits, allowing for better decision-making. An upcoming survey will further enrich this data, enabling organizations to assess their reach and impact more effectively. Additionally, the mapping of the Grant County Resiliency Plan will provide a visual representation of community resources, helping organizations identify gaps and opportunities for growth.
