Who we are

Board of Directors

Stephen

Stephen Lindsey | Board Chair

I have been proud to serve as Chairman of the Board at The Future Forge since 2020, stepping into the role of Board Chair of the Gila Community Foundation in 2023. With over seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector, I am passionate about fostering creativity, economic growth, and community empowerment.

I am fortunate to contribute to arts advocacy as a board member of Creative New Mexico, a statewide organization dedicated to promoting the arts. In 2023, I had the opportunity to work on the Grant County Resiliency Project as an economic developer, focusing on sustainability and supporting local businesses.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Development and an MBA from Western New Mexico University (WNMU). I’m honored to have been inducted into the WNMU Alumni Hall of Fame in 2023 and the Student Hall of Fame in 2024, achievements that reflect my dedication to lifelong learning and community leadership.

Silver City has been my home for 23 years, and I’m deeply committed to contributing to its growth and resilience. Through my work I aim to inspire innovation, collaboration, and positive change in our community. I hope my leadership roles continue to inspire creativity and collaboration, and can make a lasting impact on the region.

Dana

Dana M. Rosser | Vice Chair

Dana M. Rosser is a homemaker, author, speaker, wife, and mother to five beautiful children. A native of Akron, Ohio, and a graduate of The University of Akron, Dana is a certified bariatric coach and the author of “Thru Thick and Thin; Facing Obesity Thru the Eyes of a Loved One.” She also co-authored “Unbreakable Spirit, Rising Above the Impossible” with Lisa Nichols. Dana serves her community as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America (Past President – Woodlands TX chapter), Meals on Wheels, and volunteers at her church and various other organizations.

“Community service is in my blood,” quips Dana. “I believe it is my duty as a citizen of the world to give back a portion of what has been given to me. My husband, Dr. James “Butch” Rosser Jr., and I moved to this community several years ago, and I wanted to make a difference by sharing my time, talents, and resources. I decided that the Gila Community Foundation was a good fit for me. I have been a member of the Foundation for a little under two years now, and I hope to continue to strive to make GCF one of the premier non-profits in the area.”

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”
~ Winston Churchill

Peggy-Hutchinson

Peggy Hutchinson | Treasurer

Moving to Silver City after retiring, I found myself immersed in a community abounding with opportunities to give back. It has been my honor to be involved in many of our local non-profits since 2013, including the Southwest Word Fiesta, the Youth Mural Program, Virus Theater, Give Grandly and many others.

I was fortunate to be involved with the Grant County Community Foundation at its beginnings, and am thrilled to be returning now as the Gila Community Foundation moves into its next iteration.

Hugh

Hugh Epping | Board Member

My entire career has been dedicated to the nonprofit service field. Before taking early retirement to care for my late wife, I served as the Executive Director of a medical provider specializing in the treatment, control, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. When HIV/AIDS emerged as a significant issue, our Board of Directors quickly took action by prioritizing education and prevention. Under my leadership, the clinic expanded its services to include medical care, case management, counseling, contact tracing, advocacy, and continued education through public speaking at schools, churches, and civic organizations. Our service area eventually grew to encompass northeast Illinois outside of Chicago.

A key aspect of my role was securing funding, which involved grant writing, negotiating contracts with the state and counties, and tapping into various funding sources.

After retiring, I became a grant reviewer for many of the funding sources I had previously applied to, a role I fulfilled for several years until I moved out of the area.

I’ve always felt a strong sense of obligation to actively contribute to the community I live in. The Gila Community Foundation provides me with the opportunity to put my experience into action. I’ve often joked, like Groucho Marx, that I wouldn’t want to belong to any organization that would have me as a member—but the Gila Community Foundation is the exception. It leads the way in empowering nonprofits to grow and become exemplary stewards for the people they serve. It’s an honor to contribute to that mission and help make them better.
