About Us

The Gila Community Foundation, formerly known as the Grant County Community Foundation, has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of life in Southwest New Mexico since its founding in 2013. After exhaustive interviews with more than 40 local community leaders in 2012 to determine its feasibility, it was established with a vision of fostering philanthropy and supporting community needs. The Foundation has since become a vital resource for community development, nonprofit support, and charitable giving

From the outset, the Gila Community Foundation aimed to connect generous donors with pressing community needs. By promoting a culture of giving, the Foundation has successfully raised and distributed millions of dollars in grants to various local projects, community initiatives, and nonprofit organizations that significantly impact the lives of local residents. The Foundation has been instrumental in introducing the needs of southwestern New Mexico to funders from the northern part of the state, as well as nationwide, in addition to establishing partnerships locally with Freeport McMoRan and United Way.

In 2014, the Foundation brought together, for the first time, all of the nonprofits serving Silver City in order to encourage them to participate in a giving day. That first year Grant County participants raised more than $58,000 in one day. The Foundation has continued to support and promote Give Grandly, expanding the range of nonprofits that participate to now include many from Hidalgo, Catron and other local counties.  Since inception, Give Grandly has raised more than $1,000,000 for participating nonprofits. Additionally, working together to create the event each year has produced a collegial nonprofit network.
